"The universe is made of stories, not of atoms." - Muriel Rukeyser.
NESSS in collaboration with Full Marks conducted a Story Telling Session for New Eraites of PS1 to MS3 on 8th of September, 2023. Mrs. Simi Srivastava, a consummate, an illustrate master storyteller and Founder of Kathashala was invited to conduct an illuminating session. The objective behind conducting a session like this was to manifest the importance of using stories to teach various subjects in all grades.
The moment Mrs. Srivastava entered the arena she caught the attention of the students by creating and ambiance of zeal through a dynamic storytelling session with colorful props that added more delicacy to her stories. She narrated stories and her accurate voice modulations according to the story's characters highlighted the mark of a perfectionist. She also sang rhymes/recited poems thus making the session interactive and zesty. She used simple tools like a piece of cloth, and some handheld musical instruments as props to aid the narration. Some of the students were selected to participate as characters in the story which augmented their involvement in the workshop. Students were highly responsive and anxious to participate throughout the session. Learning through storytelling was surely a thoughtful initiative, undoubtedly the best learning methodology to entertain and engage with the kids.
