‘A Healthy Mind Dwells In A Healthy Body - A Health Awareness Caravan for the Youth’

Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) the second largest organization of child specialist doctors in the world has come up with a unique program for school children called Sankalp: Sampoorna Swasthya (SSS).

SSS aims at capacity building   of schools to train all school children in healthy lifestyle practices, to help them reduce their risk of development of lifestyle diseases like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, disorders of liver, kidney and cancers, when they grow up.

A workshop on SSS was successfully conducted at New Era Senior Secondary School, Vadodara where 60 Senior and 60 Junior students along with 15 teachers were oriented & trained by a team of experts - Dr Hemal Dave, Dr Bhupendra Kapadia, Dr Snehal Shirolawala and Dr Afsana Patel. Pupils were briefed about the importance of consuming a variety of nutrients in appropriate proportions .The experts even expounded the gathering on managing screen time and establishing healthy sleep routines. Children were more aware and receptive to receiving valuable tips on being both mentally and physically healthy.

The students and teachers trained under this programme will be the mentors who will further take up this programme with the remaining students in the school. They will also be the ambassadors to create awareness regarding the same in the family & community as well.

The entire programme was coordinated by Dr Hemal Dave, professor at medical college of Parul University & the teacher representative Mrs Geetha Iyer from New Era  supported by the school principal Mrs Leena Nair. This is in accordance with school managing trustee Dr Geetika Patel’s vision of providing holistic education to students leading to creating well rounded individuals.

New Era students and teachers found the training to be very essential, informative & engaging. Academy of Pediatrics, Vadodara invites expression of interest from other schools in this city, to have the SSS training conducted in their schools by contacting Dr. Bhupendra Kapadia on phone number 7600924383.
