New Era Senior Secondary School, Nizampura Vadodara Promotes Indian Cultural Heritage 

Igniting the Flame of Indian Cultural Heritage through Bharatnatyam performance supported by SPIC MACAY

In an endeavour to sensitize the students to respect and appreciate art forms of all kinds, New Era Senior Secondary School, Vadodara hosted a mesmerizing ‘Bharatnatyam’ dance performance on December 19,2023. The performance was by the renowned Sangeet Natak Academy awardee, Su. Arupa Lahiry, and was organized under the aegis of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth). This event was in accordance with the CBSE mandate for promoting Indian cultural heritage education in schools.

Celebrated artist Su. Arupa Lahiry, was accompanied by the harmonious vocals of Shri Aparna Vijayan and the rhythmic beats Shri Adithya Rajagopalan’s Mridangam. The performance of the trio illuminated the stage. The wonderful event was also witnessed by the enthusiastic presence of the students from Anand Vidya Vihar. 


Su. Arupa Lahiry, a dancer par excellence overwhelmed the audience by touching every aspect of Bharatnatyam in a short period. The session was truly exceptional as Ms. Arupa also illustrated different abhinaya through hasta mudras, leaving a lasting impression on the students.

Her interaction with the students was very informative and educative as she explained the nuances and complexities of Bharatanatyam: a dance that expresses Bhava, Raga and Tala. The dance recital transported the audience to an ethereal world of senses and the artist’s vibrant expressions, energetic and graceful dance moves left everyone spellbound.  

The event was truly remarkable, leaving students with invaluable insights into the beauty of Bharatnatyam and igniting a spark to pursue their passion for this majestic classical dance form.
