SKILLATHON: An exhibition cum Competition of Teaching Aids by NESSS teachers
ALBUM 1 – TEACHING AIDS DISPLAY BY FOUNDATIONAL STAGE TEACHERS
Teaching aids are an integral part of the classroom. These not only bring clarity to teaching concepts but also help to reinforce a skill and relieve monotony by interestingly presenting information, and engaging all sorts of students.
With an aim to provide an opportunity for teachers to share their creative and innovative approach to teaching, NESSS held ‘SKILLATHON: A Teaching Aids Competition cum Exhibition’ for its teachers on 8th September 2023 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. NESSS teachers of different subjects enthusiastically participated and prepared teaching aids for different stages as per the classes they taught ranging from Foundational Stage (Nursery to Class 2), Preparatory Stage (Class 3 to 5), Middle Stage (Class 6 to 8 ), and Secondary Stage (Class 9 to 12).
The eminent judges for various subjects were Ms. Sarmishtha Chawda (English), Ms, Poornima Menon and Ms. Beena Prashant (Math), Mr. Bhavik Shah and Ms. Bhumika Yadav (Science), Ms. Rupa Sarma (Social Science), Mr. Harshal Shah (Computer Science), Ms. Rukmini Jaiswal (Dance), Ms. Juin Dutta (Library), Mr. Kaushik Verma (Music), Mr. Arvind Suthar (Art), Ms. Urmila Pachisia (Hindi) and Mrs. PS Kelkar (PE, Sanskrit, Accounts, Economics, Physics).
The teachers were judged on the basis of originality and creativity, adaptability, classroom-friendliness, instructional appropriateness, and presentation/ demonstration of Teaching Aid. The invitees were awestruck by the splendorous displays and didactic demonstrations of the teaching aids, made from inexpensive and reusable items that were showcased in an organized way in different venues Kalam Maker Space (for the Foundational stage), ATL lab (for the Preparatory stage), Junior Computer Lab (Middle Stage) and Conference Hall (Secondary Stage).
Mrs. Komal Patel, the Managing Trustee of Parul University and New Era Senior Secondary School who visited the exhibition was highly impressed by the myriad ideas exhibited by the teachers and appreciated them for their efforts to create an exhilarating and enriching experience for the students and add a fun element to help understand complex concepts through these avant teaching aids.
